HOW TO TELL IF YOU HAVE COOL OR WARM SKIN UNDERTONES

Many people struggle to find the right foundation shade for their skin, because determining your skintone is quite a challenge.  I’m going to tell you how to determine if you have cool or warm undertones and then I will show you what colors of makeup work best with those undertones.  If you have been struggling to find the right foundation, this post is for you!

There are a few ways to determine if you have cool or warm undertones.  The first way is to look at the veins on your wrist.  If your veins appear blue, then you have cool undertones.  If your veins appear green, then you have warm undertones.  The second way to determine your undertones is to look at the color of your skin.

If your skin has a yellow undertone, then you have warm undertones.

If your skin has a pink undertone, then you have cool undertones.

The third way to determine your undertones is to look at the jewelry that you wear.

If you tend to wear silver jewelry, then you have cool undertones.

If you tend to wear gold jewelry, then you have warm undertones.

Once you have determined your skin undertone, it is time to start shopping for makeup!

If you have cool undertones, you want to focus on finding shades of makeup that are in the purple family.  Some colors that would look good on your are: lipstick in dark plums, lip glosses in fuchsia or lavender, powder blush in deep raspberry or cranberry, eyeshadows in plum or grape, eyeliner in purple, and foundations with a pink undertone.

If you have warm undertones, you want to focus on finding shades of makeup that are in the yellow family.

Some colors that would look good on your are: lipstick in corals or peach, lip glosses in gold or apricot, powder blush in peach or bronzed brown, eyeshadows in gold, caramel, or sienna, eyeliner in bronze or brown, and foundations with a yellow undertone.

Once you have found the perfect shade, go out and get creative!  Play around with different colors of makeup to see what looks good on you.  If you’re feeling adventurous, try using eyeshadow in similar colors to your lipstick or vice versa.
